Will My Cast Please Stand Up!!

“Theatre is alive and kicking!” this fact was reinforced in the Hosabelaku auditions. 18th of September broke all track records in the history of theatre auditions; there were over 40 candidates for the casting call! I was overwhelmed by the amazing response and as a writer humbled by the fact that so many youngsters wanted to be part of my vision.

Our main aim as far as the auditions were concerned was to get as many new faces as possible. It was highly gratifying to know that we would be providing that opportunity to people. We had people from all walks of life coming in to be part of Hosabelaku. Our cast now comprises of the most diverse group of people bonded by a single passion-Theater.

An idea only gets stronger when you have more people believing it and in the auditions we found those people. The audition panel was led by “namma guru” PD Satish Chandra, in spite of his imposing personality, he made sure that it wasn’t an intimidating experience. I must confess that people roped in mainly because of him, he sure does have a knack for making people comfortable!

As the first few entries came in we were happy that all the face booking, blogging and website work was paying off. The numbers just kept growing and we were shocked that we had managed to get so many people for the auditions!

We always believed that it is hard to get people to watch plays let alone come and audition for it, and here we had so many new faces waiting to paint their faces, competing for that coveted spotlight!

It just went from better to good to downright mind blowing! We had so much talent in front of us, where had all these people been hiding! It was overwhelming and I felt like writing something to do justice to the talent that was out there.

Maybe someday I will and make a play out of that too.

It was an excellent experience; it gave us the much needed fuel which is essential for such an unique experiment. So the talent was out there and we just had to choose according to who fit the bill. Many out there were so talented that the 9 characters felt very few.

This audition proved a lot to me. It reinforced our faith in theater and most importantly our faith in people!
